
The school vegetable garden was established as a source of nutrition and life skills learning for the children. The program involves the children in all aspects of growing veggies; from preparing the soil and planting the seeds, through to harvesting veggies to take home and share with their families. Recently, the garden was substantially expanded and the children learned how to build secure fencing to protect the plants from foraging and grazing animals.
Malnutrition is a serious issue for poor children in Cambodia. It impacts their brain and body development, both crucial for children to reach their potential. In addition to the added nutrition, the children gain important farming skills that they can use throughout their lives.
The vegetable garden was established by the Robertson Family a number of years ago, and is maintained due to the kind donations from a variety of donors. Due to generous support by The Hare Family Trust, the garden was able to be expanded by over 50%.
